The 2016 Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded to David J. Thouless, F. Duncan M. Haldane and J.Michael Kosterlitz "for theoretical discoveries of topological phase transitions and topological phases of matter".
Topology plays very important role in in several areas such as condensed matter physics, quantum field theory and physical cosmology. Today as part of a "rise oftopology", condensed matter physics is going through a mini-revolution. More recently, following the discovery of binary chalcogenides as topologicalinsulators, the progress in the topological insulator research field has beenremarkable.
For its importance, Tsung-Dao Lee Institute decided to assign the subject of the first TDLI program as Topology in Physics, which will be hold from May 29 to June 12,2017. The program is designed to enhance interaction and collaboration among participants from worldwide in order to stimulate the vibrant, creative thinking that leads to insight and significant scientific progress.
Besides, the program will be accompanied by an international conference: “An International Workshop: Topological matter meets quantum information” which is jointly organized by Department of Physics and Astronomy, SJTU.
