Abstract
Prof. Leo Piilonen: I describe the second-generation B-factory detector, Belle II, and accelerator, SuperKEKB, that have started operating at the KEK laboratory in Japan. I will present the status of the experiment, including early results from the Phase 2 run in 2018, and prospects for the Phase 3 run that starts in 2019.
 
Biography
Prof. Leo Piilonen: Leo Piilonen earned his PhD from Princeton University, then did his postdoc at Los Alamos National Laboratory before joining the faculty at Virginia Tech, where he has been for the past 32 years. He is a Fellow of the American Physical Society. His research in elementary particle physics has been done at the KEK laboratory in Japan, starting with the Amy experiment in 1987 then followed by the Belle and Belle II experiments. He was co-spokesperson of the Belle collaboration for the past 6 years.
