Abstract

The symmetry is one of the laws of the nature. The spontaneous breaking of the symmetry provides the mechanism (Higgs mechanism) how mass is generated and predicts the Higgs particle. The speaker will give you a review how Higgs particle was discovered at CERN in 2012 based on his long term working experience in the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). In addition, the latest progresses on Higgs physics at LHC are addressed. Finally, the speaker will talk about the Higgs physics at the future Circular Electron Positron Collider, i.e. CEPC.

Biography

Dr. Fang received his PhD in Physics from the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 2008. His thesis is “Search for SM Higgs Decaying to two photons via ATLAS Detector at LHC”. After graduation, he continuously worked in Wisconsin group located at CERN as Postdoc and Assistant Scientist for another four years. He mostly focused on the search for Higgs particle. In summer of 2012 after the discovery of Higgs, he joined IHEP and established a Higgs analysis group and played a leading role for the first observation of Vector Boson Fusion (VBF) Higgs at ATLAS. In addition, Dr. Fang is also interested in BSM Higgs and the Higgs physics in the future collider.
