活动介绍
Abstract

Super-Kamiokande is a 50 kton water Cherenkov detector in Japan. One of the main physics goals is to test Grand Unified Theory by searching for proton decay. The p→e+π0 and p→μ+π0 decay modes are the most prospective modes because they are commonly predicted in many theories and because of their unique event topologies, signal and atmospheric neutrino background events can be clearly discriminated experimentally. Super-Kamiokande has been operated from 1996 April and has a large amount of data, having great potential for discovery. In order to further improve the search sensitivity, we have enlarged the fiducial mass of Super-Kamiokande by 20% and added 25% more exposure by livetime update since the last published results in 2017, resulting in 1.5 times larger statistics. In this seminar, the latest search results about proton decay especially via p→e+π0 and p→μ+π0 modes with the larger fiducial mass and future prospects will be presented.

Biography

Akira Takenaka is a Ph.D. student at the University of Tokyo and has been working on the Super-Kamiokande experiment through master and Ph.D. courses. He has conducted the Super-K detector calibration work and proton decay search analysis, and also has an experience in working on a reactor neutrino experiment, the SoLid experiment. In this seminar, he will present his work in Super-Kamiokande, especially about the latest proton decay search results with an enlarged fiducial mass of the detector.
